Jessie McGee was raised under the big skies of Laurel, MT. It was here that she learned the values of hard work, family, friends, and the fact that life is not always fair. Music has always been a major part of her life; Whether playing alto sax in the school jazz band, singing harmonies with her sisters, playing at weddings or fundraisers, or just in the living room with friends and family, it has helped guide and mold her, into who she is today.
She attended college at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND; where she earned her bachelors degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences Education and minored in Music and History. In 2007 her life was dramatically changed when she suffered a traumatic brain injury. It’s been quite a recovery process, in fact one that is still very much on going. Many things have been lost from her former life, but not music. In fact, music has been the one thing she can turn to consistently for peace, guidance, and renewal.
In 2009 she moved back to her birth place of Missoula, MT to care for her ailing grandparents. Here she learned just how much music can help people with all sorts of ailments, and the peace it can bring at the end of life. Since her grandparents passing, art has started to take a front stage in her life in many ways. Through writing, photography, and Songwriting she is finding a voice and rediscovering herself. She continues to play at events with her twin and younger sister, and revels in the harmonies they produce. She is broadening her music styles and ideas, seeking knowledge and guidance from more seasoned artists; and hopes that she is able to help others find peace, or just a sense of knowing they are not alone through her music and her art.
“There is no perfect life, at some point there are twists and turns, ups and downs. It is how we react to these changes that shows us who we really are.” -Jessie McGee
“I am currently on a journey to rediscover who I am, what I want to do, and how I can become the best person I can be. The trick is to accomplish these tasks without sacrificing myself to the expectations of an unrealistic, and materialistic society.”- Jessie McGee
I hope you enjoy the innovative art that you see here and on my website. All pieces are created by me, and are interpretations of photographs I have taken. Each one has a different meaning for those viewing it. I hope you find whatever you are looking for.
